The Story of ECA Alumnus, Josiah Goddard
When Josiah Goddard walked across the stage as part of Eukarya Christian Academy’s Class of 2023, he had spent just one year within Eukarya’s walls. Yet, as he looks back, that single year left a lasting mark on his heart, shaping not only his view of learning but his sense of calling.
“My experience at ECA was awesome,” Josiah says with an easy smile. “It’s a great learning environment where youth are nurtured, challenged, and championed to be world changers unto the Lord. It really is like a safe lions’ den where kids are being prepared for the real world.”
A Journey of Work, Worship, and Discovery
After graduation, Josiah’s path didn’t lead him straight to a traditional four-year college. Instead, it unfolded as a journey of work, worship, and discovery. He spent nine months at Powder Keg Farm, then joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Orlando for a Discipleship Training School. Today, he continues there in the School of Ministry Development, preparing for a life of full-time missions.
That passion for missions was first ignited, in part, through ECA itself. “The summer after I graduated, I went on one of ECA’s mission trips to Uganda,” Josiah recalls. “While on that trip something ignited in my heart, spirit, and soul. I gained a heart for the people of Uganda and a heart for missions. It allowed me to get outside of the materialistic, individualistic culture of a first world nation and see true joy and what really matters — that God’s people know Him and make Him known.”
Growth Through Challenge
Even the challenges Josiah faced during his year at ECA became places of growth. Coming from a homeschool background, adjusting to traditional homework and deadlines stretched him. Sports pushed him to grow in perseverance and teamwork. “Looking back, it helped build my work ethic and character,” he reflects. “I’m grateful for that.”
Classes like Principles of Persuasion and Understanding the Times left deep impressions — equipping him to think critically, speak truth boldly, and engage other worldviews with compassion. Theater, student government, and the trades program gave him space to explore creativity, leadership, and planning — all skills he now uses in ministry.
Wisdom for the Next Generation
When asked what advice he’d give current ECA students, Josiah’s answer is simple but profound: “In everything you do, do it with Jesus, from Jesus, and for Jesus. Talk to your perfect heavenly Father, have quiet times, and listen — because God does speak to His children.”
Today, Josiah plans to continue serving with YWAM near Orlando, applying to join staff for a two-year commitment, and preparing for an outreach trip to Muizenberg, South Africa. Wherever he goes, he carries with him the same wonder, wisdom, and faithfulness that Eukarya seeks to awaken in every student.
“I just want to go wherever God leads me,” Josiah says. “To seek Him first — and help others do the same.”
